Jaganatha Perumal turned from East to West
The Legend says that intially the Almighty here was facing East and later He was turned around facing West because of Emperor Sibi Chakravarthi, a Righteous Emperor well known for his Truthful and Honesty. Once Dharma Rajan decided to test the Emperor. One day a Pigeon was being chased by an Eagle came to Sibi Chakravarthy seeking for asylum. Sibi promised to save the Pigeon. Annoyed Eagle was asking the emperor for the pigeon. King faced a dilemma as he wanted to protect the Pigeon and at the same time he could not deny the eagle’s rights of having the pigeon as the food. At last the emperor offered the Eagle his own flesh an equal weight of the pigeon. The eagle agreed. Sibi Chakravarthy finally was ready to offer his flesh. Dharma Rajan who was in the form of Eagle and Indhiran who was in the form of Pigeon were pleased with the King’s commitment to protect the weak. Almighty here wanted to witness this incident and turned from East to West. There is an another legend why the Almighty here in Nathankoil is facing West.
